Episode 55: You Are The Opportunity with guest Daniel Gomez
Episode Summary:
In this episode of Humanity Live, host Lady JB is joined by speaker and coach Daniel Gomez. He believes that the world needs deeper inspiration. Many of us are lost or adrift, and finding inspiration can light up our lives. Daniel shares his own story of hopelessness, of feeling lost. When he was 18, he attempted to end his life. He reached a low place in his life, but when he realized that surviving was his blessing, it allowed him to see the beauty of life and what was possible for him.
Daniel shares that no matter how dark things seem, “Your life is not an accident.” There is a reason, a passion, and a purpose for all of us. Recognizing that allows the world to open up to you. Daniel’s faith has a huge impact on his desire to inspire the world. His connection to God gives him strength and allows him to see the value in connecting with people and bringing positivity and hope to them.
Daniel invites us to shift our perspectives. He says, “Stop looking for the opportunity and realize that you are the opportunity.” As soon as you recognize that, you stop chasing and become a magnet for like-minded people who want to create a positive impact with you. By being authentic and open, you find the clarity and purpose in your own story and empower others to reach out.
Another story Daniel shares is about his son. When his son was 19, Daniel finally revealed to him during a speech he gave at a high school that he had attempted suicide. He was open about the emotions and thoughts he felt at the time, and because he did this, a girl in the audience came up to him afterwards and told him that he saved her life. That openness reached her, and it made a difference.
Daniel inspires by saying, “You are worth the investment.”

Episode 56: Silver Linings with guest Emily Thiroux Threatt
Episode Summary:
In this episode of Humanity Live, host Lady JB is joined by Emily Thiroux Threatt. Emily shares a lot about finding joy through grief, and she says that writing was a tool for her to navigate her grief. She realized this tool was something she could do in the community with others struggling with loss as well, and she ran writing groups and workshops to create a space for people to find the silver lining in their dark times. “Writing allows you to pull things out that you’re dealing with that,” she says.
Emily explains that her last names actually came from her two late husbands. She kept each of their last names as a way to honor and love them, and the grief she experienced for both of them sparked her desire to help others find their healing.
“Writing can help you shift gears and see things through a lens of love and positivity rather than sorrow,” Emily shares. Emily believes we can be happy even when we deal with things or moments that are difficult. It is possible to focus on the grace and joy in our lives by finding ways to shift into the positive. Writing is one of the ways of shifting the narrative. Emily says that writing about the positives in life reinforces them in your mind and pulls you out of sadness.
For example, Emily shares that writing about her hopes and desires revealed her desire to travel. By writing through grief, she discovered a new possibility for herself and ended up traveling to places like Tuscany and Bali. Those are experiences she wouldn’t have had if she hadn’t moved outside of her grief and found that a balance between loss and happiness is possible.
Emily believes that grief and happiness can coincide. “It’s it’s natural and normal to grieve and it’s natural and normal to be happy,” she says.

About Emily Thiroux Threatt
Emily is a Grief Transformation Expert and holds a Master’s Degree in English with a Concentration in Writing. She has been teaching writing and composition on the college and university level for over 30 years. During that time, she published three writing textbooks with Prentice Hall and Pearson Education.
She participated with the Bereaved Person’s Association in Bakersfield, California, which her husband co-founded. She also assisted her husband Jacques Thiroux, a bio-ethicist, with multiple revisions of his popular text Ethics Theory and Practice published by Prentice Hall and Pearson Education. She presents Writing Through Grief workshops.

Episode 57: You Are Valued with guest Natasha Rae
Episode Summary:
In this episode of Humanity Live, host Lady JB is joined by Natasha Rae. Natasha champions community and feels that the reason she is here in the world is to make sure no one is left behind. She shares that she reaches out when she’s needed, yet always makes sure her own well is full, and that balance is something she wants everyone to know is possible for them. She thinks everyone deserves to be heard and seen, and we all should know that we’re valuable.
Natasha says that the simplest strategy to connect with people is to just say hello or smile at someone. You just have to be that first person to build a bridge and make a connection with someone. It’s all too easy for us to ignore one another, but making that effort makes a huge difference.
Natasha does a lot of work with young people, and it’s part of her nature to take action when she learns a young person is being bullied or treated unfairly so they know they are loved and valued. She believes we can all extend love to one another, and that by making a positive impact—no matter how small—on just one person a day, that person can reach 10 more, and those 10 can touch even more people, and an incredible ripple effect is born.
Natasha was raised in a small town and her life was filled with both love and trauma. She recalls the pain and dysfunction of her childhood and the feeling that she didn’t fit in. Yet the knowledge that she had a beautiful purpose, and that she was born for a reason, helped her overcome the darkness and choose light, love, and joy.
She wants everyone to know: “We need to always remember there is a beautiful, beautiful purpose for every single human being on this planet. Everybody is born for a reason and we need every single one of you. We need you here because you have an impact and you have a gift. You have love, you have brightness, you have skills and talents that this world needs.”

About Natasha Rae
Natasha is a woman of the earth who excels at growing and learning every single day. Her heart’s mission is to leave no one behind and to help people know there is only one of them and that they are so needed and precious to our world. As a mother of 4 and a daughter in love, she has expanded her understanding of life through monumental life journeys that have brought her to this very day where she uses these experiences to help heal and set others free. She wants you to know you are loved and truly never alone, no matter what it may “feel” like. Her power and love come supernaturally through God, Jesus and Holy Spirit, and she wants to express those blessings unto you.

Episode 58: Finding Hope with guest Jammie Matheson
Episode Summary:
In this episode of Humanity Live, host Lady JB Owen is joined by Jammie Matheson. Jammie champions the power of hope in our lives. She understands that sometimes we might think of hope as intangible, or flimsy, but Jammie knows that hope is actually a powerful action.
Jammie shares her personal story of living through stage 4 cancer. She tells us that her son brought her home a white stone every day. He would hug her and say, “I hope you get better.” And receiving that white rock every day, seeing the action of love and hope her son took, illuminated just how powerful hope is. She says, “Hope is something we give to each other if we have lost hope. It has to be a gift that is given. Hope is one thing that even if we don’t have ourselves, we can still give to someone else.”
Jammie asks us to think about the how of our situation. When we look back at how our life or circumstances have unfolded, Jammie says we need to fully embrace the how and accept the decisions we made and the roles we played in our past that maybe didn’t create the result we wanted. We need to take ownership of past mistakes or fear and use it to grow, change, and choose differently and better in the future. Jammie shares we need to shed the safety that comes with a victim mindset because we can never expand beyond our circumstances if we only think of ourselves as victims.
She also knows that we can find and create opportunities in our lives. It is always possible to come unstuck and see what amazing things are possible for us. “We have to get out of our own way,” Jammie shares. Finding our perseverance, and quieting the voices that tell you you cannot do something, allow us to move forward. Jammie shares that changing our mindset to one of strength and hope will let us find the brightness in our lives.

He always travelled as a child due to his father’s work and was familiar with being a newcomer or an outsider. And he found that in each new place, he was always drawn to those who need help, those who are the underdogs or the outcasts. He did this because he felt fulfilled by helping others. He shares, “I’ve always found purpose and meaning in helping relieve the suffering of people.”
Sir Kaya shares an incredible Ignite Moment in his life. He turned 50 last year, and though he was a coach and mentor, he was finding himself disconnected from the world around him. This came after a few years of health problems and needing open-heart surgery. The doctors originally thought he had anxiety and depression until they found something wrong with his heart. Kaya was very against the idea that he was having any mental health struggles. It was a traumatic surgery, and Kaya shares that the body always remembers. He had to relearn how to speak, and all the while, he was constantly refusing to admit he was feeling depression and anxiety.
The Ignite Moment came when he finally realized that he was struggling emotionally. Once he was able to accept that, he was able to go out and seek healing. From there, his life changed. He was able to discover a way to connect deeper in his life. He realized he was living life on a hamster wheel, constantly charging forward, and he had to step back and reevaluate how he wanted to grow spiritually. What he found truly helped him was the book A Course in Miracles. It awakened him and allowed him to open his heart to others.

Episode 60: Emotional Intelligence for Families with guest Lynn McLaughlin
Episode Summary:
In this episode of Humanity Live, host Lady JB is joined by Lynn McLaughlin. Lynn created a book series for children, and it was inspired by her realization that we only start helping heal people after symptoms pop up. She thought to herself, what if we helped children before symptoms showed up and valued well being right from the start? From there, Lynn and her niece created books about emotional intelligence for children so they can more deeply understand their emotions. She believes all children should be able to talk about their emotions in an open and loving place.

Lynn shares that to help our children fully express themselves in a healthy way, we have to start with understanding ourselves. Lynn says that in her own life, one of her children had what she called “big emotions”. When her child expressed those emotions, Lynn immediately went into soothing, calming down mode as a mother, even though that solution didn’t always allow her child’s emotions to feel heard. So she had to look within and discover why that was her reaction to the situation. When she understood where that reaction came from, she was able to create better solutions for her and her children’s emotions.
Lynn shares that often, we as parents feel like we shouldn’t be vulnerable in front of our children. Yet that vulnerability is so important to showing your children how they can process and understand emotions. Lynn shares, “When we are proactive and aware, we can teach and model emotional intelligence for our kids when they’re young. That to me is it’s a game changer.”

Lynn gives her advice and shares there is a baby step we can all take with our children. Every morning, she explains, take 5 minutes to do a fun activity with your children, one that invites them to share how they’re feeling and sparks a conversation with them. That allows them to process and recognize how they’re feeling, and it also allows them to feel understood by the most important adults in their lives—their parents.

About Lynn McLaughlin
Lynn McLaughlin’s mission is to inspire adults and children to develop a strong sense of well-being for life. Her vision is that children will become self-confident, empathetic, motivated, and self-aware as they develop the ability to manage their emotions in a positive way, overcoming challenges.
As a best-selling and award-winning author, Lynn McLaughlin has now co-authored a children’s book series titled, “The Power of Thought” with Amber Raymond (also her niece). She is also the host of the podcast “Taking the Helm”.

Episode 61: Humanity Thrives on Connection with guest Robert & Noelle Peterson

Episode Summary:

In this episode of Humanity Live, host Lady JB is joined by couple Robert and Noelle Patterson. They both speak on how connection is fundamental to life and communication is key to the relationships we have with others. These two things allow us to deeply understand and step into the shoes of another person. Robert says, “Our humanity is at its best when it’s connecting and concerned with others.”

Robert and Noelle urge us to reject selfishness because it limits the authenticity of the connections we can create. The couple shares their connection strategies. Active listening is a big one. Noelle says that God gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason, and when we actually focus on engaging and asking questions about what someone is sharing, it makes a huge difference. Another great strategy for this kind of listening is to repeat back what they said to you, sharing how you interpreted it so you both have clarity.

They both also share that every human wants recognition and attention from one another, and that isn’t a bad thing. Robert asks us to think about when we were children, and how we always wanted our artwork up on the fridge, and that same feeling stays with us into adulthood. We want to be seen and heard. We want those authentic connections where we are truly recognized by the important people in our lives.

Noelle and Robert share their personal story of Noelle having open heart surgery. In recovery, they both realized they had to take advantage of every moment of every day and live life to the fullest. Noelle realized see wasn’t Ignited by her job, so she left and decided to do what she was actually passionate about. Robert’s journey of supporting Noelle allowed him to awaken a positive and caring mindset, which he has held on to ever since. That shift helped Noelle and Robert live their purpose.

About Robert and Noelle Patterson

Robert and Noelle have been married 30 years and have spent 25 of that coaching other couples in conflict management and setting a firm foundation for marriage. They have been missionaries in South America, served as Pastor and wife at a medium size church in south Denver and raised two children who are building their own relationships. Episode 62: Vulnerable Storytelling with guest Tess Cacciatore
Episode Summary:
In this episode of Humanity Live, host Lady JB Owen is joined by Tes Cacciatore. Tess loves creating social impact through storytelling. She believes we can spark a connection between all of us with the creativity and stories we tell one another. To Tess, social impact is bringing something positive to individuals that have a larger effect. It raises up humanity, as well as the people around you.
Tess shares that we have to start with the small impacts every single one of us is capable of creating. Just greeting people with a good morning or sharing a smile can give so much to another person. One word or action can completely make someone’s day. Tess urges us to be friendly and loving even to strangers because you never know what someone else is going through.

Storytelling, as Tess defines it, is about vulnerability. When you connect with your authentic self and dig into even the scary or hard moments of your life, it impacts others on a greater scale. Tess’ Ignite Moment is a story that takes place in the Republic of Congo when she was in an unsafe environment, but still was her (as she calls it) her “brazy” self… that’s brave and crazy, by the way. There was a moment of life or death for her there, and it shifted something in her and was a turning point for her. It made her realize that she was willing to risk everything, even her life, to tell the stories that would change people’s lives.
To Tess, her faith drives her, and she shares that we all need our own unique thing—whether it is faith or something else—that drives us, helps us make sense of the world, and carries us forward. Tess also shares that in every moment of struggle or challenge in life, there is a lesson to be learned and a blessing to find on the other side of it. Tess says, “The more you love yourself, the more you can give and create beautiful, loving relationships in your life.”

About Tess Cacciatore
Tess is a Multimedia/Interactive Creator and Director/Producer with 25+ years in the entertainment/technology and philanthropic arenas. Tess is also the Founder and CEO of GWEN Global LLC, a for-profit company dedicated to social impact & positive change in entertainment, which also encompasses the Global Women’s Empowerment Network (a 501c3).
Tess is a best-selling author, award-winning producer/filmmaker/songwriter, as well as a Director, keynote speaker, and social entrepreneur who has dedicated her life to advocating for “Transforming lives through the power of storytelling!”

Episode 63: The 5 B’s of Business with guest Jameece Pinckney

Episode Summary:

In this episode of Humanity Live, host Lady JB is joined by Jameece Pinckney! Jameece shares that as someone who runs a minority woman-owned business, she didn’t see herself represented in the businesses in her area. Coming into her industry, she had to fight to make her way in, and because of that, she has been focused on being value-based and creating solutions for her clients.

Jameece has her 5 B’s of business. The 5 B’s are believe, build, brand, bank, and (don’t) break your business. She knows we have to believe we are capable of achieving what we aspire to. This belief shows others that you’re serious about what you do. Next is building a business, meaning you need a strong foundation and a strong start to your business. This can apply beyond business as well. Taking the time to plan and consider makes the road ahead easier for any project.

The next B is branding. Creating consistency in the look, approach, and style of your brand is how you make your mark. Having a good strategy that is based on the values and mission you hold will allow people to recognize you and what you can create in the world. After that, the next B is banking on your business. This is all about finances. Whatever you want from your goals, a strong financial basis will support your ambitions.

The last B is don’t Break the process! Jameece wants us to know that we’ll all have challenges and obstacles, but we can’t let them get us down and break the great processes we’ve built and the progress we’ve made. Jameece says that with great risk comes great reward. You have to be bold and willing to strive toward your values and goals.

Jameece’s Ignite Moment came when she decided she wanted to make a career change out of law and move into government contracting. She got a one-way ticket and took just a single duffel bag with her to a new city and set out determined to make this new path prosperous. Her attitude was that success would happen for her and that each change or step would allow her to build to something better and create an abundant life. Her faith made her success possible, and now she is successfully running her own business and helping others achieve as well.

She shares her outlook on change: “I don’t know where the road is going to take me but I believe there’s something greater on the other side of this.”

Episode 64: Start Where You Are with guest Val Jon Farris

Episode Summary:

In today’s episode of Humanity Live, host Lady JB is joined by Val Jon Farris. Val Jon believes all humanity needs to trust themselves and the process of life. When people are open and look more deeply, we can all understand that the fears we hold are actually the vehicles to our own greatness and strength. When we embrace our fear rather than letting it devolve into panic, we gain more control over our lives and the direction we want to go in. We discover what we might not have known before; that we are more capable and strong than we thought.

Val Jon’s experience in the corporate world and through the workshops he has run has allowed him to realize that there is greatness and strength in all of us, but some have gained tools and knowledge that allow them to be more in touch with it than others, and tap into that greatness more often. The process of getting to that point, Val Jon explains, requires vulnerability, humility, and a willingness to share our authentic selves.

Val Jon shares, “When we start with where we are, we can get to where we want to be.” When we fight against where we are, we cannot move past it. Val shares that we have to be our own best friends, to stop looking down on ourselves or believing we don’t have the power to uplift and change our lives. We have to be kind to ourselves, stop comparing ourselves to others, and recognize and embrace the growth and knowledge we are capable of gaining throughout life.

“Life is about movement,” Val Jon says. Trusting the process and knowing that change is part of our journey makes it easier to navigate the challenges, gifts, and experiences that we have throughout life. Embracing change, and holding on to the greatness and strength within us as we evolve, allows us to make the most of our lives and step into our greatest selves.
